ABOUT:
Robo 3D is an American 3D printer manufacturer based in San Diego, California, founded in 2012. The company gained prominence through a successful Kickstarter campaign, raising $649,663 against a $49,000 goal for its first product, the Robo 3D R1.
Since its inception, Robo 3D focused on affordable, user-friendly desktop 3D printers with open filament systems, targeting home users, small businesses, and education. Later, it expanded its offerings with models like the Robo C2 and R2, and shifted towards educational solutions.
Robo 3D R1, launched via Kickstarter in 2013, was Robo 3D’s debut printer, raising nearly $650,000. It featured a characteristic, distinctive white plastic casing and a large – at the time – build volume of 254 x 254 x 203 mm. It was based on RepRap Prusa i2 project.
Priced at $499 during the campaign, it offered rather good value, although in terms of print quality or reliability, it was far behind MakerBot Replicator 2 or Up! Plus.
